Are You Shopping Green?
By admin on Mar 21, 2008 in - Energy Work -, - Wealth-Being -
You may not have noticed this, but there’s a big movement in the US to eliminate the use of plastic shopping bags.
They take less energy to create and are less environmentally damaging to make than paper bags, BUT, they literally poison the earth where they way-too-slowly degrade. Not to mention the dangerous and even fatal impact they have on fish, birds and other critters.
There are stores in the US that are charging 39 cents per grocery bag to create the incentive for people to buy and use reusable cloth bags. It’s working, too.
I love the idea, and do my part with bringing my own bags and recycling, but after I thought about it more in depth, I felt a little dismayed because I also like to reuse those same grocery bags for my kitchen, bathroom and office trash bins.
So I’ve been searching online for solutions that would mean I’d have something in which I could place goopy stuff to keep my large garbage can clean and free of flies and maggoty things (if you’re not old enough to remember what trash bins used to be like before plastic, let your grossest imaginings run wild–it was NOT cute).
I also like the smaller produce bags because they keep veggies, fruits, cheeses and meats fresher longer. I’ll miss those if they’re banned, too.
Don’t get me wrong–I’m all for measures that help us clean up and keep the world and our environment safe for us and the animals. But I also want to be able to keep my space clean, and my food fresh.
I figure there must be people working on alternatives already. I want to know where to get something that will hold my tiny bits of trash that accrue daily, as well as something that is bigger that goes in my big bin–I really don’t want flies, maggots or rats and mice reappearing en masse after all these years of cleanness!
I was talking with Mellen-Thomas about it, and he said there were “green bags” for keeping veggies and fruits (as well as meats and cheeses), so I checked those out.
There’s a pretty well-known green bag by Debbie Meyers (debbiemeyer.com), but I read a bunch of “these aren’t as good” blog posts about her bags and other products, and found these, too: Evert-Fresh Green Bags, (evertfresh.com) which look and sound better for the price. Mind you, I haven’t tried them yet, myself.
I also found something called The E.G.G., which is a keep-things-fresh eggy-shaped thing you put in your food bins in the fridge or on your counter. I thought these were pretty cool–4theegg.com.
(NOTE: This is by no means my endorsement of any of those products–simply what I found out of curiosity. Up to you to discern if you want to buy any of them!)
As for grocery bags to haul stuff home in, the ones they sell at the markets are OK, but I think they’re high-priced for what you get–most of the ones I have seen are ugly, high-priced bags that look like they won’t last long.
So I went to my cafepress store and ordered some of my own white cloth bags!
I also lowered all the prices on those same bags (they were at 18.97 before) so they’re now only 13 bucks–one dollar over my cost.
If you want bags to haul your goodies home in that will last you and be good-looking, too, here is where you can get them: cafepress.com/angelatreatlyon
Why not have something that works, is environmentally friendly, AND looks great, too?!?
If you have up-to-date info on where to get big trash bags or bin liners that are environmentally sound, I’d love to know about them. Write Lyon (at) IDareYouRadio.com. Thanks!

Today I did an interview with a guy who wrote a book about the value of becoming “emotionally literate.”
Great concept, eh? It was such a pleasure to have a really great conversation with one of those rare male beings who is OK with discussing emotions!
I think, in reality, that more and more men are becoming more and more able to be open to feelings – and us gals are more and more able to become OK with our powerful minds. I’ll tell you who it was in a week or so when the podcast is ready!

REMEMBER: Mellen-Thomas and I are presenting his Teleclass on The Future: from the Pyramids to 2012 and Beyond on Saturday, 4pm NY time.
There’s still a little room left for you if you grab it now–go here to register: eftbooks.com/mellen.html
Mellen is a perfect example of someone who has made his passion his entire life. He has steeped every aspect of himself in it. There’s no doubt in his mind about his mission on earth, his work, his play or the people he hangs out with.
He’s so entirely inspiring and excited about his work and his curiosity that each time we speak together I feel as if I’ve had a fire lit under me for another week, at least.
Come on along, get inspired and find out what’s beyond 2012–it’s pretty amazing, and includes *you.* We both look forward to seeing you Saturday!
