Patricia Bengston, Stone Sculptor: Living Her Deepest Dreams

bengston-face
One of California’s foremost stone sculptors, Patricia Bengston-Jones is a shining example of a Daring Dreamer – someone who doesn’t take Normal for one minute and who bucks the odds to live her Deepest Dreams. Not because of any rebellion, necessarily, but because it’s simply who she is and what she does.

She’s a powerful example of someone who really lives her passion, not alowing the numbing, everyday trance that surrounds us that says, “get a job, be norrrrmaallll…” overtake her!

Raw, mythical power

I was really taken with her work. I love the raw, mythical quality of it, and how she allows the stone to be stone, rather than trying to make something pretty-pretty out of it. It’s stone: heavy; plain; figured; textural; translucent; eternal; even humorous.

bengston-jones-sail

I love how her forms give you an inkling of a story, but not much more than will tickle your own frames of reference and put you on the beginning of a path to create your own stories from the images.

Time and Form

lets-clean-the-barnaclesIDYRHere is one of the pieces I loved the most. Although these are all maritime themed, not all of her works are.  Let’s Clean the Barnacles Off: made from Travertine and Slate, 10″ x 7″ x 20″

Here’s what she has to say on her site: PBengtson.com

“As a seeker of knowledge, with ten years of landscape and (color) field painting in 1972, I returned to finished my education, to find answers in my search of the ‘unknown’.

“This led me into sculpture and using concepts of the prehistoric monumental stone sites and myths. I visited England, Italy and Mexico, and lived in the Southwest.

I used the monolithic forms, arches and stacking or layering to denote the passage of time in my sculpture

bengston-jones-marble“This background information along with the mythology of the Vikings, has helped me research my own heritage which combines Swedish and Northern European.

“My endless search has helped to shed some light on the unexplained phenomena of my past cultures. It enables my sculpture to come together as a ‘Passage to My Heritage.’ ”

Make sure you visit her site for more mythical, powerful stone and glass work – especially check out that gateway she’s carving in the image above! See lots more of her works at her website, PBengtson.com.

Kate Beeders, Business Success Coach

kate-beedersKate Beeders, Business Success Coach, uses MTT/EFT and LOA tools to get her clients out of the mud and into success. Listen in as she tells us about the hell-trip she transformed into “I can do anything I want!”

Kate shares with us what she does to increase her success; a couple of new business tips; and how the revelation “that I really could change my thoughts” has completely changed her life.

You’ll be inspired to hear how she left “safe corporate America” to live the life she chose, and how she is creating her independence; why climbing Le Gros Piton in St. Lucia was such a pivotal experience for her; and what she will be doing in the next 12 months – it’s NOT your “regular” goal!

Kate helps people eliminate whatever obstacles are blocking their success.  The powerful technique she uses is a Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT/EFT). Kate combines the Law of Attraction with tapping to get optimum results.

How My Ma Lived Artfully and Why I Never Paint Gory Stuff

ma

When I was a child, I admired the fact that my mother was a professional artist.

She painted stark watercolor land and seascapes, inspired by the windswept beaches, watering holes and harbors up and down the New England coast that she and my dad sailed through.

She was often commissioned to do pastel portraits of our friends, neighbors and their kids. I remember going with her to the portrait sittings and playing with the siblings of the kids who were sitting. We were all bored, and made fun by creating our own portraits. That’s where it all began for me.

ma-painting

This is one of her watercolors of Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, where we lived.

I wasn’t such a huge fan of her portraits, but I loved how she could get across the idea of the glassy water of Bar Harbor, Maine using one swipe of her brush, or the freedom of a gull in the air with only a squiggle made perfectly, freely just-so. Because of her, I started drawing at age six, and never stopped.

Gory stuff

I used to pore through her art history books, study her sketches, snitch any old art materials it looked like she’d abandoned, and practice on her scraps of paper.

goyaOne of the things I remember clearly about her books were the gory, hideous war paintings from before World War I.

I didn’t realize that at the time that they were painted, drawings and paintings were the only way that anyone could communicate what was happening to people in one part of the world to the people in another.

Instantaneous communication is so now ubiquitous – even back then in the 50s with our dial phones, radio and the beginnings of TV – that I thought it was just sheer perversity that anyone would want to paint such subjects.

I misunderstood the function of art before radio and TV. I didn’t get that Goya’s paintings and Daumier’s drawings were like newspapers today, conveying what was going on at the time.

If you look back at their amazing work: Francisco Goya (see here) and Honore Daumier (see here), could have unquestionably been Pulitzer prize reporters for their eras. Nonetheless, I was dismayed by their subject matter – most of which was far milder than what is “normal” to see in the media today.

Not for me

I decided that I’d never paint or carve anything so gruesome. I wanted to see color, light, delight, soul, depth, honesty, courage, beauty, inspiration, power, connection to the divine. I decided, too, that I had to go beyond just making art – I wanted to live my life artfully, as well – although I really didn’t know quite how to do that yet.

Over the years since those days, I have made a practice of just that: trying to live my life as artfully as I can. I’ve found that attempting to make each thing I do perfect leads to stagnation, boredom and huge anxiety (will it be good enough; can I do it?). Instead, I just slow myself down a fraction to be able to breathe in and out, look at what I’m doing or the person I’m with, then appreciate them as much as I can. When I do that, life seems to light up somehow.

Speeding through life

I’ve noticed that people who have a hard time don’t quite reach the levels of success they’d like, or the relationships or money they want. They are also the ones who forget to add beauty to their lives.

I have also noticed that these same people also have a tendency to speed through their lives as if they are being chased by some huge expectation … that they simultaneously believe they will never attain!

Speeding through life produces an inability to appreciate your surroundings, your relationships, yourself or what you do accomplish.

Without appreciation, how can you thrive?

You can’t – at least not as fully as you would, otherwise.

Think of the word “appreciation.”

The root word from which it is derived means “precious.”

To appreciate is to make precious, dear to your heart. Imagine if you stopped long enough during your day to appreciate your feet, and how they carry you all over the place. Even though you give them so little attention, there they are doing your work.

  • What could you do for your feet today that would make them (and you!) feel delicious?
  • What could you do for your friend today that would help him or her feel great?
  • What can you do as best you can that would make you feel like you accomplished something today?

That’s living artfully.

Think of your kitchen. It’s where all the food in your life comes in, gets stored, cleaned, and prepared for your life fuel. How much do you appreciate your kitchen? What would it take to stand in the middle of that kitchen and look around, radiating appreciation to the counter tops, the sink, the fridge, the floor? Not much!

Try it and see how that feels.

Then do it with other places in your house. You’ll notice that there will be places you’ll want to clean up a bit, maybe move some furniture around, open windows. Don’t be so anxious to do it right away, though.

Give the room your love first, and ask yourself, if I were to really love myself, and live artfully, appreciating and doing everything the best I could, how would I like this room to be?

Make mental notes as you go through your day as to what you could slow down, take a breath in and out, and appreciate. Then do it. Doesn’t have to take long at all!

Make mental notes about what you’d like to change in your house, your behavior, your relationships, your business. Make changes gradually, and celebrate them and how those changes make you feel.

Note and appreciate the people, things, and places that you want to honor for having stood by you for a long time. Even take a second to write a line of appreciation on a card and send it off to one of those people.

THAT is living artfully: create your life on purpose, in beauty and appreciation.

I know you can do it, and that the more you do, the better you’ll feel. And the better you feel, the better your life will be, day by day by day.

Do You Have Great, Unshakable Support for Your Life?

ocean-of-love

One of the most precious things that can help make your life as great as you wish it to be is an unshakable support system.

Whether that consists of your family, friends, co-workers, business team or a great coach, that support is essential.

These are the people (or person) to whom you can go and feel safe, and by whom you feel loved and uplifted.

With them, you can open your heart, let your hurts fall out on the floor for examination and healing, without any judgement or criticisms or you-should-haves.

They stand by you

They love and support you with massive amounts of love as you be with that pile of scary stuff, deal with it, and decide what to do next.

They stand by you as you go through and transform your circumstances, attitudes, thoughts, or situations so you end up feeling good, so you feel open and delighted again.

hugYou know for certain that they have the uplifting energy and sweet, unbiased love and support that only someone who believes in you can give you.

You know for sure that, even if they don’t have any solutions for your problem, any new perspective through which to look, they still love you without judgement. And that they will be with you until and as you choose something new, something that does work for you.

You also know that, even if you don’t don’t like what they have to say, they will tell you the truth of their own experience; they will give you their opinion and perspective; and they will tell you how they feel.

And you know that they will never insist that you do anything their way–that yes, they’ll have their say, but they know that you need to make your own decisions that may even be in direct opposition to what they say or would do, themselves.

To have a person in your life
who will be this for you is mighty precious.

It’s a gift beyond measure. It’s like having a rock to lie down on in the sun and breathe in new light and life. It’s strength where there seemed, before, to be none. It’s a line to life when life itself seems impossible. It’s a mirror for the depth of your own power, the power that takes you where ever you want to go.

These are the kind of people who ask you what you’d like to get out of this situation, rather than joining you in blame, shame, resentment or pity parties. You’ve found a gem. What a gift!

Do you have a person like that?

If not, I invite you to become one, yourself, to at least one person.

You’ll find out what it’s like, to be that generous, that kind, that truthful. It will grow you faster than you can even begin to imagine. And one day you’ll see that you’ve had people like this in your life the whole time–you just never knew it. You just never recognized them.

If you do you have people in your life who love you and support you, who make you feel safe and like you can do anything you set your mind to, then send them love and gratitude, because they need it, too!

I send you an ocean of love.

Annabel Fisher: Courage and Determination Help Her Found AAMET

annabel

Annabel Fisher is the founder of AAMET (Association of the Advancement of Energy Techniques). I want you to see how her courage and determination helped her continue on through a terrible illness to come out the other side and create a world-wide organization that helps thousands of people become emotionally free.

In today’s chaotic world, her story serves to remind us that we really can persevere and triumph.

IDareYouRadio.comClick on the icon to the left to listen in on our interview as we talk about how she and I both used EFT (tapping) to relieve ourselves of very intense, chronic conditions that we feared would be with us for the rest of our lives.

Take careful note of what she did to help herself, and how at first it seemed like it backfired on her!

She had been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and was very painfully going about her life feeling ill, exhausted and in a wheelchair. I suffered from suicidal depression. We were both filled with anger, fear and resentment–and ended up clearing it all.

OK, you’ve heard of people using tapping to get rid of illnesses, depression and pain before, but I bet you didn’t know that, for a while, tapping felt like it was making things worse for us both!

Backwards? Huh?

I had been tapping for 4 or 5 weeks (this was 2002, when I was an Artist-in-Residence living in New Zealand), and I thought I was the only one this seemingly backwards experience happened to, and felt very discouraged. Find out why that happened to us, and what our answers were–hers in the UK, mine halfway across the world in NZ.

AAMET in Canada

You’ll also find out about why she started AAMET in Canada, where else it is now available, what her trainings are like and who else she recommends for those of you who want to become top-notch practitioners.

If you are attracted to becoming an EFT practitioner, please know that there are very good training and certifications available other than Gary Craig’s.

These workshops and programs help you get hands-on training with other live students, so you not only increase your knowledge and understanding of tapping, but also your ability to work one-on-one with other, real human beings. This is training you won’t get sitting there watching DVDs.

annabel-bkI highly recommend Annabel’s trainings.

She is the Creator of The Healing Game Process, and is the leading authority on using this process to reclaim vibrant health and true authenticity. She is the host of the radio show, The Healing Game.

Annabel Fisher has worked with thousands of chronically ill clients from around the world since 2004. Her journey with this work began when she healed a chronic health condition of her own, in which she was wheelchair-bound. As a result of her work in the field of chronic illness, Annabel wrote the book, The Healing Game: Transforming Chronic Illness Using EFT

Does Your Brand Miscommunicate What Your Biz Is About?

samantha

Guest article by Samantha Hartley, Enlightened Marketing Expert

I once had a client, Greg, who came to me for assistance with his marketing.

He’d invested a fortune in his company but wasn’t attracting enough paying clients.

He was scraping by, waiting for the momentum to kick in.

And it wasn’t kicking.

Greg hadn’t been frugal about his marketing materials. They were developed by professional designers and copywriters and were polished and fashionable.  There was only one problem: they didn’t communicate his brand.

Who do you work with?

How do you help them?

What do you do for them that no one else can do as well?

Why should anyone choose you instead of the alternatives?

That’s what your prospective clients want to know. When people meet you or see your website, they’re asking, “How should I think about you? Where do you fit in the filing cabinet of my mind?”

Like Greg, many entrepreneurs who come to me for help with their marketing are actually struggling with an identity problem: they don’t have a clear one.

A brand is the unique identity of your business.

Your brand identity includes:

  • Who your intended audience is
  • What makes you the right choice for them
  • Why they should believe your claims

In Greg’s case, he could have ditched the expensive brochures no one reads, and the confusing web site filled with puzzling images and then just shared from his heart:

“I work with small business owners who are tired of hiring candidates who present well but don’t perform. I help them to identify the profile of the ideal candidate and the best way to select them. As a result, they hire the right one the first time, save money on training and make money by having a productive employee from the get-go. My system doesn’t rely on self-reporting, so profiles are more accurate, as seen by our 92% retention rate.”

What example would YOU give of a brand identity?

More often people think of the Nike swoosh logo or Starbucks’ green mermaid.

But those aren’t brands – they’re logos.

You may think of Big Mac hamburgers, Crocs holey shoes and iPod players.  But those aren’t brands – they’re products.

Positioning

Even for entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, brands need to be positioned, which means defining who they’re for and why they’re the best choice for them.

In the example above, we have an intended audience (small business owners) and a differentiator (very accurate profiles); this is the beginning of brand building.  In addition, you should articulate a brand promise (money saved on training and made on productivity) that lays out what to expect from an experience of your brand.

What’s your brand promise?

  • Volvo promises its cars are the safest.
  • Ben & Jerry’s brand promises innovative ice cream flavors and social responsibility.
  • FedEx promises your stuff will be delivered overnight.
  • I promise you can increase sales without selling out.

Unenlightened marketers skip this step entirely and doom themselves to commodity status.  Do you want to be just another entry in the Chamber of Commerce directory?  Of course not!  You want to be the Starbucks of your profession.

Starbucks proved the power of branding by transforming a measly pennies-per-cup beverage into an experience its audience would pay scads of money for.

They expanded the coffee playing field from simply aroma and flavor to include atmosphere, skilled service (not from wait staff, but “baristas”), fair trade and more benefits than my poor little truck stop coffee counter had ever heard of.

How can you transform your own commodity into a brand?

(Hint: differentiated value)

The irony here is that almost every business has a brand identity of some kind, just not necessarily the one they want.

I’ve heard people refer to “the expensive place,” or “that weird guy who does something health-related.”

They’ve called brands “cars for old people,” or “the ones made in sweat shops.”

Our task is to brand ourselves, consciously, with an identity, and work to make it at least as prominent in the minds of our audience as the other impressions they receive.

If you don’t do it, someone else will do it for you, and you might not like the results.

Samantha Hartley, Branding Expert: Hints & Tips for Your Biz

samantha

I’m delighted to bring you dynamic entrepreneur, Samantha Hartley, who is an expert at helping business owners recognize and create their business brand identity.

If you have a business, this is important – and even more so if you have no brand identity, you’ll really want to listen to this week’s show.

What, exactly, IS branding?

Why do you need to be so conscious of it, and careful in its creation?

Most of us think of branding being your business card, how your brochures and other promotional materials look, your office, your websites, your Facebook pages and Twitter feed – even how you answer the phone!

Your brand identity is more!

Your Brand identity is at the root of all the things I listed above. Once you have created a brand identity that is aligned with your values, talents, gifts and the value you bring to the marketplace, it expresses

  • who you (or your business) are,
  • what you do for your clients, and
  • is your representative even when you’re not there to speak.

IDareYouRadio.comI invite you to click on the link or the logo to listen in to our powerful conversation where Samantha shares lots of hints and tips about branding, what it is and how you can up the oomph of your own.

Her tips will help you consolidate your thoughts and ideas about getting your brand created in a way that concisely and clearly communicates the value of your business.

Take her great brand assessment (free) at her site to see where your understanding of your business and its value and how you express it stands–you’ll get back a 5 to 11 page report according to the answers you give on the assessment. I took it, and learned a lot!

Dr. Mark Starr: Hypothyroidism and What to Do About It

mark-starr

“I never imagined I would become the modern-day expert on thyroid and its impact on chronic illness. When I researched mitochondrial disorders and thyroid, I realized they were one and the same.

The last landmark book written about hypothyroidism was by Dr. Broda Barnes in 1976. I hope my book will allow me to help doctors and patients get back in touch with this basic tenet of medicine.

Without this knowledge, patients go from office to office, searching for answers and too often getting just superficial treatment of symptoms.”

As you listen, Dr. Starr will answer these questions:
•   What used to be the name for what doctors now call fibromyalgia?
•   Why do fibrolmyalgia sufferers usually have hormone problems, predominantly thyroid?

•   How did Dr. Mark Starr come to realize that his muscle pain was because of hypothyroidism (low thyroid)?
•   What is a basal metablism test, and why does Dr. Starr consider that type of test for the thyroid more comprehensive and conclusive than the standard thyroid testing done by blood?

•   Why does Dr. Starr believe that the synthetic forms of thyroid hormone don’t work as well as the “old fashioned” dessicated form?
•   Why did the drop in deaths by infectious disease result in more heart attacks and other previously unknown diseases in the mid-1900s on?

•   Why, if you eat a low amount of fat in your high-protein diet, does your metabolism actually slow down and your need for thyroid skyrocket?
•   What will you get when you buy a $20 portion of a cow? (!)

•   What do milivolts have to do with your teeth, infection and health?

Rupa Marya: Respected Doctor, Accomplished Musician

rupa

Rupa Marya: Respected Doctor, accomplished Musician, is such an inspiration to those of us who are not strictly right or left brain oriented. She’s the perfect embodiment of the idea that left informs right, right enhances left. She juggles two seemingly disparate careers – and thrives doing it!

In short, she decided to go for her doctorate, but couldn’t stay away from music. She decided to do both–and kept each side secret from the other! As I searched for other viable news reports about her, I found these two articles below. I hope you enjoy reading about her!

From ABC news: (Read the whole thing HERE)
“Rupa Marya grew up seriously thinking she would become a doctor. She also wanted to be a singer, it was what her parents – immigrants from India wanted for her as well. Her heart was also in music so she felt pressure to choose between medicine or music.”

From Boston: (Read the whole thing HERE)
She says, “”Watching this country become more fearful and journalists becoming the mouthpiece of the administration, I became so angry,” says Marya, on the phone from Sweden. She performs with the April Fishes Tuesday at Johnny D’s as part of a North American tour that includes the Montreal Jazz Festival and Quebec City’s Festival d’Été.

“I couldn’t pick up my guitar,” Marya says. “It was too painful. But then I started to think about what would it be like to create music that reflected what I wanted to see in the world, to give a voice to the things that weren’t getting any airtime. I started with an assignment to write 10 songs about love, compassion, and uncertainty in a time of love across borders.

“How we convey information to one another is something that’s very interesting to me,” Marya says. “As a doctor, there are so many ways you can miscommunicate, and it’s always a challenge. How do you tell somebody they’re dying? How do you tell an audience that people in their neighborhood are living with so much fear of being deported that they don’t seek proper medical help? It’s like the riddle of my life, and I explore it several different ways, through music, and through these kinds of investigations.”

Two Crazy Artists: Ron Schmitt & Ric Hall

The Daring Dreamers Showcase

Ric Hall and Ron Schmitt are a couple of guys living in the Pacific Northwest who produce the most unusual pastels and paintings I’ve seen in a long time. As soon as I saw their work I knew I had to interview them!

I invite you to click on the IDareYouRadio logo above to listen in as I interview them. They work on the same pieces at the same time, side-by-side, totally defying the myth of the Artist Ego!

Ironing Out A Relationship

One is a veteran world-traveller, one is a love-to-stay-at-home guy, happy to never leave his backyard.

One is a let’s-just-do-art and nevermind the galleries guy, the other markets.

As they leave their egos behind, they create these marvelous, compelling images. The ones you see here are only a few of their huge collection. Click here for their site: Schmitt-Hall-Studios.com. Run your mouse over each image for its title, and click on any one of them to go to the interview.

I think their work is amazing, mysterious, and really powerful. I really love the color, the emotion and the sheer mystery in each piece which allows the viewer to make up his own story about what’s going on.

Are You Being True to and Living Your Energetic Truth?

tuttle

Have you ever been told to hush up?

Or told to lighten up?

Or maybe someone said to you: “get a thicker skin,” or “you’re too sensitive!”

Or, “Get serious!”

And did you end up trying to be some way that was completely not ‘you’ in an attempt to be loved or more acceptable?

I have. I’ve been shushed, told not to laugh (right!) and in particular, not to laugh so loud. And, “You’re too much!” If I had a dollar for each time I’ve heard that I’d never have to work another day in my life.

I simply, naturally, as part of my energy make-up, have lots of ‘swift,’ substantial, powerful energy. It comes with Angela Treat Lyon territory.

Maybe I ‘should’…

But I used to think that, in order to be more acceptable, I ‘should’ be more quiet, speak more softly, walk more gracefully–that there was something wrong with me.

Ha! There certainly wasn’t! Yes, of course I’m OK with me now, but I sure didn’t used to be. And I used to compensate for what I thought of as my blunders and gaffs by trying not being my natural self. I ended up trying to be an ideal that just didn’t fit me, and I felt like a fraud, unaccepted and really, really angry. I was living a lie, and I was afraid to live my truth.

At last, more understanding!

This week, I finally availed myself of Carol Tuttle’s Online Energy Profiling system. I wish now I had gotten it before when I first heard of it. She really hits home when she says that the very thing you don’t like about yourself or that you’ve been criticized for may be your greatest gift–even your mission!

I am really impressed with the clarity and quality of Carol’s site, the videos and Carol’s delivery. BUT–most of all, Carol’s knowledge and ability to deliver it in a soft, yet incisive way, while simultaneously weaving in pointed stories about herself and her own family and how profound this information has been for her, had me riveted.

I am so impressed. I’m not a sit-down-and-watch-videos-for-hours person, but I sat in this very seat and spent three+ hours watching each online video segment, beginning to end. They were that good. No, they were astounding.

No hype, no this-is-how-it-is, no you-must-do-this or thats–just clear information that makes things understandable. So simple–yet complex and deep; interwoven so neatly. It was such a pleasure to listen, watch and soak in every word she said. I even watched a couple of the segments more than once–unheard of for me–I’m a watch-once-and-that’s-it person.

Don’t want to wait? Use THIS LINK!

Why is this system so profound?

See what you have to say to these phrases and questions:

Have you ever been told:
You’re too much!
Lighten up!
Get a spine!
Don’t be so loud!
You don’t need to be a perfectionist!
You’re too sensitive!

Or been asked:
Why do you always have to be the life of the party?
Why do your legs bounce like that–are you going somewhere?
Who the heck cares about your family tree, anyway?
How can you sit there without moving an inch?

I bet you didn’t know how to respond.

Other than collapsing into I-can’t-be-me, or feeling angry and rebellious that you’re not OK the way you are, or just ignoring the hurt.

But if you were familiar with the four types of energy, you’d know that each one of those questions and statements fits one particular profile. And if someone said one of those things to you, you’d know how to respond!

Here’s the thing

If you have been told that you’re the life of the party, did you know that you have an important mission? Don’t let people misread you anymore–you do have value, just the way you are. Could you imagine Goldie Hawn trying to be serious? Wrong!

And doesn’t it get old being told you’re too sensitive, get a thick skin?

Did you know there’s a purpose for your sensitivity and you’re just as valuable and precious as anyone else? And did you know that highly sensitive people are in the forefront of thought and design in the world?

I was able to use Carol’s energy type information this week with a client when I realized that I was using words that fit my own energy style rather than hers, and she was blocking them like a wall. When I started using words that fit her energetic style, she opened up immediately. This is way beyond NLP!

Are you curious?

I want you to imagine how you’d like your relationships to improve–whether with family, friends, clients, co-workers or complete strangers. They will once you understand the energy types better.

You’ll find out what mission 1s have in the world, why 4s like to wear black, why 2s are so obsessed with past and future, and why us 3s are so bold!

Carol shares some poignant anecdotes about herself, her husband and her kids–how their lives improved and how much more they understand and appreciate each other now that they get what their energy configurations are.

I wish I’d had this understanding right from the start–what a difference it would have made–maybe my  family and I wouldn’t have had the ultimate dysfunctional experience! We all could have lived our truthful beingnesses.

I strongly recommend Carol’s Online Energy Profiling system.

What makes Energy Profiling® one of the most accurate assessment tools is it’s reference to not only personality traits, but to our unique expression in body language and physical features.  Because personality can be altered, adapted, and shamed, many people are not living true to their dominant expression in all areas of life.  Consider the possibility that the way you doodle and your facial features may say more about who you really are than your personality!

Discover what Type of person you are by discovering your unique Energy Profile® today and start living true to the power of you! Pretty amazing.

What Really Happened to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence?

dec-indep

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? (This is from Larry James’ website, CelebrateLove.com.

For the record, here’s a portrait of the men who pledged “our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor” for liberty many years ago.

Just 56 men

Fifty-six men from each of the original 13 colonies signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Nine of the signers were immigrants, two were brothers and two were cousins. One was an orphan. The average age of a signer was 45. Benjamin Franklin was the oldest delegate at 70. The youngest was Thomas Lynch Jr. of South Carolina at 27.

18 of the signers were merchants or businessmen, 14 were farmers, and four were doctors. Twenty-two were lawyers – although William Hooper of North Carolina was “disbarred” when he spoke out against the king – and nine were judges. Stephen Hopkins had been governor of Rhode Island. 42 signers had served in their colonial legislatures.

John Witherspoon of New Jersey was the only active clergyman to attend. (Indeed, he wore his pontificals to the sessions.) Almost all were Protestants. Charles Carroll of Maryland was the lone Roman Catholic.

7 of the signers were educated at Harvard, 4 at Yale, four at William & Mary, and 3 at Princeton. Witherspoon was the president of Princeton, and George Wythe was a professor at William & Mary. His students included Declaration scribe, Thomas Jefferson.

17 signers fought in the American Revolution. Thomas Nelson was a colonel in the Second Virginia Regiment and then commanded Virginia military forces at the Battle of Yorktown. William Whipple served with the New Hampshire militia and was a commanding officer in the decisive Saratoga campaign. Oliver Wolcott led the Connecticut regiments sent for the defense of New York and commanded a brigade of militia that took part in the defeat of General Burgoyne. Caesar Rodney was a major general in the Delaware militia; John Hancock held the same rank in the Massachusetts militia.

Captured!

The British captured 5 signers during the war. Edward Rutledge, Thomas Heyward, and Arthur Middleton were captured at the Battle of Charleston in 1780. George Walton was wounded and captured at the Battle of Savannah. Richard Stockton of New Jersey never recovered from his incarceration at the hands of British Loyalists. He died in 1781.

Thomas McKean of Delaware wrote John Adams that he was “hunted like a fox by the enemy – compelled to remove my family five times in a few months.” Abraham Clark of New Jersey had 2 of his sons captured by the British during the war.

11 signers had their homes and property destroyed. Francis Lewis’s New York home was razed and his wife taken prisoner. John Hart’s farm and mills were destroyed when the British invaded New Jersey, and he died while fleeing capture. Carter Braxton and Nelson, both of Virginia, lent large sums of their personal fortunes to support the war effort but were never repaid.

15 of the signers participated in their states’ constitutional conventions, and 6 – Roger Sherman, Robert Morris, Franklin, George Clymer, James Wilson, and George Reed – signed the U.S. Constitution.

After the Revolution

After the Revolution, 13 signers went on to become governors. 18 served in their state legislatures. 16 became state and federal judges. 7 became members of the U.S. House of Representatives. 6 became U.S. senators. James Wilson and Samuel Chase became Supreme Court justices. Jefferson, Adams, and Elbridge Gerry each became vice president. Adams and Jefferson later became president.

5 signers played major roles in the establishment of colleges and universities: Franklin and the University of Pennsylvania; Jefferson and the University of Virginia; Benjamin Rush and Dickinson College; Lewis Morris and New York University; and George Walton and the University of Georgia.

Adams, Jefferson, and Carroll were the longest surviving signers. Adams and Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Carroll was the last signer to die in 1832 at the age of 95.

NOTE:  If you received an e-mail describing what “really” happened to the signers of the Declaration of Independence that describes their many tales of woe, don’t believe it!

The stories can be about “how the signers suffered” or “the price they paid” spiel contains numerous errors. (Click here for the full story that debunks the Internet e-mail hoax. Need more proof?  Click here.)

Sally Fallon: Nourishing Traditional Foods You Can Make

fallon

I love this book!

Did you know that:

* That patients with severe burns are often force-fed huge quantities of eggs as a source of protein to rebuild loss of skin?

* That a study done with over 800,000 people by the American Cancer Society revealed that “non-egg users had a higher death rate from heart attacks and strokes than egg users”?

* The word ‘marathon’ actually means fennel?

* That you can make an immune-boosting drink from beets that has been consumed in Europe for thousands of years?

Where am I getting all this good stuff?

fallon-nour-tradFrom an absolute must-read, must-keep book by Sally Fallon: Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats

“This well-researched, thought-provoking guide to traditional foods contains a startling message: Animal fats and cholesterol are not villains but vital factors in the diet, necessary for normal growth, proper function of the brain and nervous system, protection from disease and optimum energy levels. Sally Fallon dispels the myths of the current low-fat fad in this practical, entertaining guide to a can-do diet that is both nutritious and delicious.”

I believe it will have more of an eventual impact than the ones Adele Davis wrote in the 60s that spurred such a health-food revolution.

Nourishing Traditions is not just full of plain old same-old, same-old recipes, it’s recipes that are geared to help you be well, often derived from folk tradtion based on regional foods that were used for various health-giving properties.

Stories Galore!

She includes pages and pages of anecdotes, scientific research, stories and folk tradition passed along for centuries, all rolled up in the one 600+ page book.

I thought you’d love this book if you are fed up (LOL) with being fed hype, BS and lies by the big food processors. Wait til you read what she says about cream and butter (page 88)! And on page 130, one small sentence about using MSG *only once* gave me chills. And why raw honey helps you digest bread and other starchy foods (page 490)!

All kinds of great recipes that, in very simple and do-able form, allow you to build your immune system, add vitamins and enzymes, and create incredibly good-tasting foods. I’ve been experimenting with these for a couple of weeks and haven’t found one I didn’t like or enjoy. I especially love the lemon drink made with whey that tastes almost like beer, but is not fermented with alcohol!

More cool things about food

And here’s a good one: Patricia Hardman, PhD., who is the Director of Woodland Hall Academy, a school specifically for kids with hyperactivity and learning disabilities in Florida, says “We can change a child’s behavior dramatically by lowering his or her intake of sugar.”

She goes on to say that one child, who was tested 140 on his IQ test, was retested after a weekend stay with granny, who plied him with sweets.

This time, he came in at 100. After 3 days he was tested again and – you got it – back to 140.
