People write me left and right who are flipped out about the economy, the stock market, the war, worried about recession (hello? we’ve been in one for 8 years!), and unsure how they could possibly live their dream when bringing in the bread and rent is difficult for them.

They say, I’m afraid, no one will like/want/appreciate me or what I do, no one cares, who will buy it, I’m afraid I’ll fail/succeed/be laughed at/go broke, etc.

Well, my experience is this: when you actually dive deep enough to see what your dream is, dredge it up to the surface, acknowledge it and begin to bring it to light and celebrate it and share it with others, you get in the flow.

People you don’t even know reach out to support you. Things come out of nowhere for you, and even invite you to go further than you thought you’d go.

Like, last week the day after I decided to get back into carving again, I received an invitation to show in the very well-known and respected annual monumental sculpture show in Loveland, Colorado. I hadn’t heard from them in years, and out of the blue, here’s the invite! Hmm. Universe speaks?

In the end, aligning with and focusing on your dream, your passion, actually saves time, money and energy!

It’s the stalling, doubting, worrying, anxiety, and obsession with what-ifs and I-can’ts that get in the way and slow you down, cost you a fortune and wear you utterly and completely out.

Why? Because you are spending all your energy on resisting that which is natural to you and wants to flow out of you like the Mississippi!

If I told you to live your life and hold back that river at the same time, you’d think I was an idiot. Well, that’s what we’re doing when we resist our natural passions, skills, talents and gifts – using our energy to merely survive AND holding back the flow! Is this nuts or what?!?

This moment in our history can seem like the darkest hour before the dawn. In truth, it’s the time when it’s most important to recognize your core values, dreams and passions, take a stand and don’t budge. Even if it means downsizing for a bit, peeling back and going without some of the luxuries you’ve been used to. Even if it means a steep learning curve, trying on new ideas and habits, or meeting and integrating new technologies, systems and people.

Every day, in order to orient myself amidst the chaos of choices, I ask myself what it is I’d do in the case that I only had a year to live.

Who would I choose to hang out with?
What would I occupy my time with?
And why?
How would doing what I do make me feel about myself, my life and my work when I do leave this world?

I don’t know about you, but I want to play with people who are contributers, not complainers. People who are more concerned with quality than quantity. Being rather than having. I want to feel like I did some good. I want to feel like, even if I didn’t reach my biggest goals, at least I put in a big, sustained, sincere try.

If you ask yourself that question and find that what you’d like to do is cramped by a 9-5, a lack of funds or resources, or too-great a distance between yourself and your loved ones, or doubt that you will ever make that long-held-secret dream come true, how does that feel to your heart? Your soul?

The big question now is NOT *why* the blocks and obstacles are there. Heck, show me one road in the world without a pothole!

It’s whether or not you’ll commit to your true self and step on out of the Survival Vault onto the path you and only you were meant to tread.

The next question is which baby step will you take on your fist venture out? It really doesn’t even matter what the step is, as long as you take it. Do it. So what if you goof. Does that mean you have to slink back into your cave and die of humiliation? No! Take another step and aim it a bit to the right or left. Keep walking and navigating.

I know you have gifts and talents that are seething below the surface, begging to come out of you. You are a unique being, no one on the face of this earth a duplicate. You have things you love, issues you are passionate about, ideas you could rant about, people you adore.

I won’t mince my words here. Are you waiting? Are you reaching as far into yourself as you really can? What else is in there that you can pull out and add to the wonderful collage of your life? Quit hiding it!

And if you feel like are already living your dream, polish it up! Make it so we can all see it and enjoy it and love it, too!

If I could get next to you and get a chance to look in your eyes and feel your heart, to transfer the love I have for you and your uniqueness, and light your soul on fire with a big old Soul Match, I would!

I want you and your expression of passion to manifest clearly and brilliantly. We ALL need you – your dream, your passion, your love and caring, the specific combination of talents, gifts and skills that only you have because of the combination of your unique beingness and the experiences in your life. We need your expanded being right now.

There are people who are blasting the fact that the Fed is doing this or that with interest rates, that real estate, the stock market and other aspects of the economy are in sad shape. OK, maybe that’s what’s in the papers. Maybe that is what reporters are crying out.

But does that change the nature of your dream? Does that make you drive your dream deeper away to keep yourself safe, and you’ll do it “one day?”

Or does it make you mad that doomsday crying just make bad things snowball? Does it make you more determined to bring about – to be – to create – to support – the changes you want to see on the planet, in your own life, in your kids’ lives?

You can either spend your time feeling scared and hunkering down in your underground shelter, or you can emerge with a straight back, bright eyes and open arms. With a full heart, knowing that who you are and what you do is important and of value.

Maybe you have a little dream. Maybe you have a big dream, I don’t care. Just please: DREAM IT and DO IT.

OK, maybe it really is hard for you to do it. So? Do it anyway! Look at the way you’ll feel when you do – like a champ!

And look at the inspiration it is for the rest of us to see you do it – instant permission for us to take a stand and do it, too.

Imagine all of us having the courage and the tenacity and the will and the daring to come out of the woodwork and declare, “Yes! Here’s what I want to do/be! I’m doing it – no matter what!”

Imagine the strength we can give to each other!

Imagine how exciting to see each of us beaming with joy and gratitude that yes!, we broke through the enormous NO that we were conditioned with since before birth!

Sure, the papers say the sky is falling. But I’m looking up and there’s a whole lot of blue up there that isn’t doing any such thing. I refuse that dream. I choose to co-create a world with creativity, peace, freedom, prosperity and immeasurable joy.

What are you choosing?

No matter what choices you have made before, there’s always another chance to choose again. Start now, and keep refining. Not too long from now you’ll say, “I did it!” And then you can allow another dream to come up and out!
